Blog # 8 - MMH 21 and 22
In chapter 21 of the MMH Handbook I read about In-Text Citations and how they are important to use correctly in MLA style. You always want to ensure that you are giving credit to the person whom the information comes from. This chapter explains in depth of many different scenarios, (27 different ones) of which you could run into when citing in your paper. One thing that really stood out to me was the use of citing multiple works from a single author. It is important that if you use information from one author, that you make sure you identify which source is the correct one. Many citations will have the authors name in the first part of the citation, but with multiple works from that same author thats not possible. It is important to identify which source you are using so you can accurately identify information and not run into any plagiarism errors. This chapter is definitely something that has been reiterated many times, but it was important to read it and use it as a guide because it is the true MLA format and will help you if you get stuck.
Chapter 22 gives you 100 different scenarios of which you could possibly run into when citing work. It gives you an example for each one, so you properly know how to cite a source, and give credit to the author properly. I think this chapter is another reiteration of what most of us already know but again, it is a really good guide to look back on if you get stuck. Having 100 examples of how to cite different types of MLA sources, is better than not having examples... So if you get stuck, USE THEM! Citations are some thing in a paper that can easily be overlooked, when they shouldn't be, it is crucial to cite your sources accurately, to make your information credible and reliable, but to also show that you aren't plaguing someones work.
